While Reel Plaice has much to love, the limited indoor seating can lead to a crowded environment during peak hours, particularly on weekend evenings. Some diners report wait times when the restaurant fills up, especially on Saturday evenings around 5 PM, a commonly busy time for this spot.
Another common concern is the occasional greasy texture of chips, although many patrons still prefer the taste overall. A few diners feel that the kids' menu, while varied, could include more options for younger patrons. Nonetheless, these points seldom deter regulars who return for the famously crispy fish and friendly atmosphere.
Called on the 20th October, did a search on Google for fish and chips as we were on the ferry from Ireland. Fantastic fish and chip, a decent portion, very friendly helpful staff who were happy to check out ingredients for me as I am allergic to dairy and egg. Very clean cooking and eating area. We will definitely return and highly recommend
Omg best deep fried king prawns I've ever tried ( i crave the weekly) ...Best fish, best lobster 🦞 (selected availability) and best chips ever. Queues are always out the door. Small dine in area but lots of places to sit outside, near the beach, especially in the good weather. x
Having been to Ayr many times over the years I have been used to going to other places for a fish supper. I gave this place a try and I really enjoyed it. The chips were really good quality and didn't feel greasy in the mouth. The haddock I had was delicious. The batter was light and crispy with some nice small bubbles forming. The fillet of haddock was perfectly cut with no dark bits or bones. Very good size of fish for the money. Service was friendly and helpful. Was able to specify how much salt and vinegar I wanted which isn't for everyone but it made me enjoy my meal more.
Had an excellent fish with my mum. Batter was crispy and fish broke apart like fresh baked bread. Very friendly staff and clean establishment with fun nautical decorations. Would highly recommend.
Great fish and chips, cooked fresh and had friendly and happy staff. Has some tables inside but we had a takeaway outside by small green. We had three different meals but all were superb; prawns, haddock and haggis.
Professional helpful and kind staff served us the most delicious selection of seafood treats, everything is clean and relaxing I highly recommend this PLAICE , as honestly Scottish welcoming healthy and heartwarming food. A must go
Food was fantastic shop was clean and well presented. Totally worth the wait for fresh cooked items. My 8 year old son said the squid was 100/10 best he has had in years! Photos include Prawn and haddock tacos squid and chips and langostines and chips and chicken gougones and chips. Declious.
